Many times my trunk is full and the little light in the back is blocked by the items placed in front of it. Suddenly the forward trunk area is a black cave and I need to feel my way around just to find things. So I took matters into my own hands. I removed the panels in the trunk to add FatMat and took no pictures or even remember how I did it at this point, so I can't tell you how to pull that stuff apart. Others have done it so I imagine a search of the message boards should yield something. When I put it back together, I will try to write it up at that time.

I bought a Pilot 3 white LED package at Autozone, they come with the resisters already attached for 12v use and LED holders. You could avoid the kit and buy the LEDs and resisters and skip the holders if you like but that work is beyond the scope of this writeup.

I drilled three pilot holes, followed by three 7/32 holes and then countersunk them to allow the holders to fit properly. All this was done from the ugly, non visible side of the plastic.

Notice how the two front holes are in the angled section, this is to get the two of them to project light forward into the front area, the center will point straight down.

After putting in the LED holders and plugging in the LEDs I ran all the wire to the passenger side of the car, I put heat shrink on all of it and taped it down to avoid the wire rattling later.

Then I attached all three LEDs to six feet of left over speaker wire I had laying around. This was routed around to the trunk light. I connected the positive from the LEDs (red wires) to the Yellow wire on the trunk light. I then connected the negative from the LEDs (black wires) to the Red trunk light wire. If you have had the trunk open for a long time, the light may have tuned off, close and open the trunk again to test the LEDs. If they don't work you may have the polarity revered.

Here is an underside view of the LEDs on the strut bar. I know it's hard to see, I will get some better pictures later when the trunk is back together.

Here is them on in the trunk with no standard trunk light, they don't look blue or this dim in person, again, this part will be better when this page is done.
